Balochistan could become Pakistan’s new economic frontier

Until now Balochistan has been the most neglected and backward province in the country. But it could become Pakistan’s new economic frontier within the next decade or so if all the development projects that are now underway or planned in the territory, as well as in other parts of the country and in the multi-country region around it, start gelling together and become a reality.

One of the key elements in realising this dream has to do, in more ways than one, with what is happening today in western China, a region that borders Pakistan and is already connected to it by the Karakoram Highway (KKH) linking Islamabad to Kasghar, via Hassan Abdal, Haripur, Havelian, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Thahkot, Besham, Chilas, Gilgit, Karimabad, Gulmit, Sost and the Khunjrab Pass…
