Chundrigar Road: Pakistan’s Business “Golden Mile”
The ‘golden mile’ in the country’s financial capital glitters Pakistan’s economy, says one top officials of the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) about the road, which also houses the country’s most popular electronic media, the GEO TV, and the biggest publishing house, the Jang Group of Newspapers.
“Some 90 per cent of financial and business deals in terms of value in Pakistan are clicked daily in the ‘golden mile’ in Karachi,” said the official while roughly calculating the possible recovery of taxes from the goldmines located on the one-and-a-half km stretch studded with high rise building housing a variety of business houses involved in billions of rupees business.
If the business deals at the banks, Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE), Karachi Cotton Association (KCA), shipping companies, leasing firms, Insurance houses, computer market and some big business establishments are put together they would certainly touch the 90 per cent, of the country’s total daily deals, at the I I Chundrigar Road, said the tax collector…
