Pakistan-born artist exhibits human forms in US
The curves of her body are softly delineated in black ink; her head rests on a knee as the detailed lines of her hair spill down a leg.
Copper plating used for her lips and wide eyes shifts the viewers’ focus to her expression, confronting them with a conflicting starkness of emotion.
Pakistan-born artist Zulfiqar Rashid, a five-year resident of Sabre Springs, stood before his female forms in the windows of Artistspace at Southfair in Del Mar. More than 30 of his pieces are on display at the outdoor gallery through Dec. 26.
Rashid noted that the arms, wrists and neck of the women were adorned with ornamental jewelry, including a ghoongaru – ankle jewelry made from hundreds of tiny bells.
“This is jewelry that you would probably find in Pakistan, especially in the tribal areas, at weddings or special occasions,” said Rashid, 40, who works for a software company in Scripps Ranch…
