Punjab Science Olympiad Opens in Lahore
The Provincial Science Olympiad opened on Wednesday in Lahore. One hundred research-based projects in the fields of biology, chemistry, computer sciences, mathematics and physics are being displayed at the Olympiad. Intel Pakistan Corporation and the Punjab Education Department’s second science education project are jointly organising the Olympiad in which students will be selected for the National Science Olympiad (NSO).
Winners of the NSO will represent Pakistan at the 2005 Intel International Sciences & Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) to be held in Arizona, USA. The Intel ISEF is the world’s largest pre-college science competition, which brings together 1,200 young scientists from 40 countries to share ideas and to compete for over $3 million awards and scholarships. Science workshops were held in eight major cites of the Punjab to prepare students for the Divisional Science Olympiads where scientists from the Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) conducted presentations on research methodologies.
