Trendy British Food Joint Opens Shop in Islamabad

The advent of a London-style restaurant serving local food reflects the growing prosperity of Pakistan’s urban middle and upper classes, as well as a more cosmopolitan outlook brought partly by returning Pakistani emigres. More and more glass-fronted mobile phone shops and smart restaurants are popping up amid the grime and bustle of the country’s big cities, while flashy foreign cars can be seen weaving through the congested, potholed streets. Lazeez opened two months ago in Islamabad and managers say it is due to expand in the near future with branches in Karachi, the country’s teeming commercial hub, and in the cultural and culinary capital of Lahore.
