Karachi’s Chinese Dentists: A Unique Group of Immigrants

Chinese dentists have been a part of Karachi’s landscape much before the inception of Pakistan itself. Immigrants from China settled in Karachi, set up dental clinics and made a name for themselves, particularly among the low-income, residents of the city. These Chinese immigrants came to Karachi sometime in the 1940s after having traveled the length and breadth of the Asian continent in search of better prospects for themselves and their families. A number of them traveled all the way down to the southern belt of Asia and made a home for themselves in Pakistan and various other cities of India.
